MaGNIFY:TOKYO
Our first regional project. What started as a dream to create an album of Japanese Christian songs developed into an ever-growing community of artists and creators making beautiful things for the Kingdom.
THE ALBUM
In May 2023 we spent time in Tokyo gathering local singers and musicians and capturing their original songs. The result is an album of Japanese songs of faith, worship and the Christian life, with an eclectic mix of genres and styles.
THE PROCESS
We recorded this album in a more traditional / old-school method of setting up all the singers and musicians in the same room and tracking it the songs all at once. With Jonathan guiding the process as a producer, and working with each singer to land on an arrangement we were happy with. We then took the recorded session back to the UK to add extra layers and textures, creating an album that feels like a tasteful blend of a studio and live album. All the while being careful not to colour it with too much of our own style but to have it be an accurate representation of what we captured in the room: beautifully unique songs that feel authentically worshipful and distinctly Japanese.

Magnify Tokyo is more than just music. Our time spent in Japan over the years has shown us just how many beautiful stories there are to be told about what God is doing in this country. We wanted to tell these stories in a beautiful and permanent way and so we decided to launch a design-focussed magazine which documents not only the story of this project, but the lives of people living in Japan and their stories of faith and art.
